2nd September 2004

GREAT VALUE. GREAT OPPORTUNITY.
The postponed Presenters Workshop now commences next Sunday 5th September (2pm - 6pm). This is a great opportunity as it is only a small group. The workshop runs for 6 weeks. TAKE THE PLUNGE - enroll now.

The Rehearsal Diary from one of the monologues currently in rehearsal for "Gorgeous Girls" is now available. (CLICK HERE) Rehearsing a monologue is a VERY intense experience. It is much more demanding than any interactive performance - so much is focused on the one individual.

All the impulses whether external or internal are the sole responsibility of the one actor. This is tough stuff. This diary of the rehearsal of a monologue about a 113 year old prostitute and madam ("Yesterdays News") had been recorded as a teaching tool for Director Richard Sarell. As many people have expressed interested in reading the notes Richard has decided to publish them. They include not only a log of the progress of the rehearsal but details of the impros and techniques devised to resolve problems.

The rehearsals of "45 Minutes Thankyou Gypsy", a monologue written & performed by CAROLINE LLOYD are being recorded on video with the aim of making a 10 minute documentary about the rehearsal. The monologues are part of "Gorgeous Girls" which opens at Gasworks Arts Park, October 20-31, Wednesday - Saturday 8pm, Sunday 6pm (FOR MEDIA RELEASE CLICK HERE)

Feeling Good
At a recent audition Samantha Hird was told she had "nailed it" but didn't get the part because they were looking for a different type. Sammy has nearly completed all levels of The Rehearsal Room Teenage Classes and the understanding she has gained is now starting to pay dividends for her.

So, a week later - success!!! An email to The Rehearsal Room reads, "I am so excited, I got the lead part I auditioned for today. I love the script and I can't wait to film it. It will be a 3 day shoot." Sam is twelve and through her hard work is acquiring a good level of skill. This 3 day shoot will give her more experience and more confidence. "I think I am travelling well at the moment," she says.

Feeling Good Too!
"I can't stop smiling," says Patrick Constantinou. "I am having so much fun." Patrick has found The Rehearsal Room a really exhilarating experience. "It has put the fun back into acting for me," he said. After completing a three-year degree course in performance Patrick felt restricted and burdened by his responsibilities as an actor.

PATRICK PLAYING A SCENE IN A REHEARSAL ROOM WORKSHOP.
The Rehearsal Room process has liberated him from those restrictions and he is now, after only 5 weeks, freely indulging his impulses to respond. Richard Sarell says, "Patrick's listening skills are growing strongly. And his trust and self-confidence are rocketing." Patrick has good reason to smile.

Catastrophe or Opportunity.
There are lots of opportunities to be seen by a Casting Director around at the moment. And being seen is of some value when your skills are functioning. But it is important to assess whether you are actually getting an opportunity to be cast or whether you are just spending a lot of money to be told that, "You need to do more work." Rehearsal Room Audition Workshops are not primarily about 'being seen'. They are an opportunity to build audition skills so that when you do get a real chance to audition you can do so competently.

Audition skills are the icing on the cake. They give a shine to already functioning acting skills. If you are interested in improving your audition skills email The Rehearsal Room now.
